There’s a visitor to camp lounging on the steps of Cabin 7 just before breakfast on July 2nd. Maybe eighteen years old, he’s stunning. Wavy blond hair, tanned skin, and a bright smile make him handsome beyond belief as he surveys the campers. He rises when pretty much everyone is out of their cabins, dusting off denim shorts and calls them over. Somehow, even with the backdrop of the glowing cabin in the sunrise, this kid stands out.

“Hey, cousins.” He stuffs his hands in his pockets, projecting a laid back attitude. “So, you know why you’re in camp. You’re training to become heroes, right? Well, since there’s twelve of us and twelve months in the year, we’re gonna be testing you once a month for your skills.”

So that’s what this is. A godly announcement. From Apollo. God of the sun, of music, of poetry, of prophecy. God of archery and healing. Twin brother of Artemis, son of Zeus.

“So on the current calendar, July’s the seventh month. And this,” he jerks his thumb back, “is the seventh cabin. So it makes sense for me to offer you your first challenge.” He gives an over-dramatic sigh. “But you guys seem to have shown off your combat skills pretty well last month--and no one else is gonna say it from upstairs, but you did a good job, for untested new heroes. It’s a good thing that vote went the way it did, huh?” He gives a nod to the remaining members of cabins 1 and 3, and to the Hades children in the crowd. He loves being right.

“You’ve got good bodies, your reactions are fast. You survived this long, that proves it. So I’m going to test your minds.” He glances at cabin 6 across the way. “Not smarts, like somebody might, but your creativity. Sometimes, being creative can save your lives. So at the end of the month, I want each of the cabins to submit to me a poem or a song, and it will be judged. The winner, of course, will get a prize. Along with that prize, they’ll have the privilege of no chores for an entire month.”

That. Is a damn good prize. No shoveling the stables, no picking strawberries in the heat, no cleaning up after sparring.

Apollo grins, and winks at his own kids. “Do me proud.”

He then turns back to the kids gathered. “Any questions?”

[Since breakfast, Minato has had some ideas. And some problems have formed in his original ideas. And generally, he's just been thinking. And avoiding the goddamn lava wall. But mostly thinking. He's come to at least a few conclusions.]

I was wondering if anyone in Cabin 6 could help me with something. I want to know some of the old stories of the gods. If we're going to meet them, we should know more than just their names. [And they should know if the gods have ever been defeated and if anyone has ever survived the gods deciding it was time for them to be killed just because they were kids of the powerful ones.]

[Another moment.]

Does anyone else know how to control the darkness? [That makes it seem like he's evil oh my god. He should've found a better way to say it.] It could be useful, after all.

[He's just trying to figure out what cards he might have in his hands if it does end up that the gods decide to murder them.]

[Nighttime. It feels so different when the sky is void of the usual summer mugginess and over-cast skies that often clouded the skies of Iwatodai. It seemed, for the first time since leaving The Door, Minako could finally breathe again.]

I don't know why I waited so long to come up here. The view's unreal. [She is dangling her necklace in front of her, letting it swing like a pendulum in front of the waxing crescent moon. Ten more days, give or take.] Anyone still awake enough to come join me?

[She'd mentioned star-gazing before to some of her fellow campers. They hadn't made an organized effort to make it happen just yet, but surely they wouldn't mind her testing the waters, so to speak.]

What time is it? Don't wanna miss curfew... [She sat up on the roof, lifting her hands to slip her necklace back over her head when a soft skidding noise made her jolt.] ..... [She went still suddenly, though her breath caught. She'd slid down a few good inches of the roof, but her foot maintained some bit of traction.] Eheh...that was close!

[She starts to push herself back up to where she was sitting, but what traction her foot had managed was once again lost, and this time her sliding decent didn't stop.]

[[ooc: Cabin 11 folks, feel free to hear the commotion on the roof and the consequential sound of Minako falling off someone off the side of the cabin. Of course action is open to anyone on camp if they want to come check on her!]]

If our father is one of the Big Three, I really think he should have his own cabin, don't you?

[He is pointedly not talking about the whole 'might be killed' thing, but paying homage to the god of death probably can't hurt, all things considered. Especially since he's also family.]

Ah... oh. Hello. [The young woman's voice sounds uncertain but curious.] Wow... Sorry. I think my head is still spinning from all of this. I feel like I'm so far from home.

[Though she supposes... she is. New York was pretty far from Japan.]

I don't really understand what's going on but I do know they must be wrong about me. I'm no demigod. And if I am, it would be helpful if they could at least tell me who I'm suppose to be related to.

[If you didn't hear the deafening sound of lightening this morning when Nanjo set foot in camp, you definitely had to get your ears checked. So, out of all the gods of Olympus, he was a son of Zeus. Truth be told, he would have settled for nothing less. The man who appears before you, despite the camp's shirt looks almost regal, well kept, and pushes up his pair of glasses before speaking.]

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. My name is Kei Nanjo, heir of the Nanjo Group and Conglomerate, although I suppose this does not quite hold much weight here anymore...

[All this training and preparation to become head of Japan's most powerful companies, literally gone the minute he showed up here. It's frustrating to be sure...but in an odd way, also strangely liberating. Instead of having everything handed over to him, he'll now need to restart his empire anew.

Don't worry, Yamaoka, he'll be the number one man yet.]

[ The image transmitted is that of Mitsuru, but to those that know her, she definitely looks different. Someone's mom has decided to claim her daughter, not even letting Mitsuru put on her new camp t-shirt before "blessing" her with this getup. Not that she doesn't think this is a nice gesture, but coupled with the shock of being transported from her home world, this is just one bizarre day. The mixture of confusion, sadness, and worry shows plainly on her face. ]

This is all so very strange.

Never in a million years did I imagine something like this-- it's a lot to take in all at once. [ Beginning with the fact that her parents aren't her real parents. Considering her father has shaped so much of what she is today, that new tidbit of information is particularly upsetting. Nothing can change how much she loves him, but it feels as if she's been living a lie her entire life. ]

Furthermore, this... [ She trails off, looking down at the ridiculous dress she's wearing. It's not ridiculous in that she doesn't like it, but she's well aware that she looks silly wearing such a formal gown at what looks like a summer camp. Kind of like showing up to the beach in a tuxedo. ] This is an interesting welcoming gift. Although, it's worrisome that I seem to be stuck looking like this. I fail to see how this is practical in any way.

[ She sighs, closing her eyes. ] I apologize for the negativity. I imagine I'm not the only one having a hard time with this. [ She smiles a little now. ] My name is Mitsuru Kirijo. It's very nice to meet you all. I hope we're able to find some answers soon.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you need assistance for anything. I look forward to helping however I can.

Thank you, Iris.

I've been thinking, since a few people have brought it up. If certain traits are passed down from our parents to us, our personalities and skills should at least be clues, right?

So if we pool what we know about the gods from various understandings of mythology, we may be able to figure out what the most common traits are for each god and go from there. After all, I can't imagine that anyone isn't curious...

[She's not sore about not being claimed. Not at all.]

I was also thinking for those of us who are claimed in Cabin 11 it might be best to set up a sort of rotation for who gets the beds and who gets the floor, since people continue to arrive. It isn't good for anyone not used to it to sleep on the floor for very long, and if we're all family we must treat each other hospitably, right?

[Well, this is as welcoming a face as you'll ever see! This here's Minako Arisato, a bright-eyed and smiling high schooler with a bit of perk!--ok, a lot of perk.]

Shout-out to all the newbies, here! It's nice to meet you all! I'm Minako Arisato, and I've been lucky enough to have Philotes claim me right from the get-go! Guess that kinda makes sense, when you think about it. She's all about friendship and affection and all that good stuff.

[But Minako's not here to give a lesson on classics. There are far greater priorities, here!]

Which means, for all you guys headed to Cabin 11, you can expect to see me there as a permanent fixture! So be a pal and do your best to take good care of the facilities there? There're a few of us around that will be using those things long after you're all moved in to your assigned cabins. M'just saying!

So that's your friendly PSA for the day! In the meantime, I hope you're ready to have your butts kicked at Capture the Flag!

[It's not over-confidence if she knows she'll rock it.]

Why don't we all get to introducing ourselves? Things'll be a lot more cozy around here if we get on a first-name basis, don't you think? ♥
