[The camera of the necklace is flopping in all directions as a pair of hands are working on getting a feed. Grumbling can be heard from the recipient as a redhead comes into view, looking particularly put out from the way everything seems to be going.]

This on? Oh good, it's on. And this is why I don't have a phone...

So uh... [She rubs her head a little.] I guess I'm new here, recently claimed yadda yadda. I'm Akane Hino, and by dang I'm giving up my last name. I'm in Cabin 9 and I just want to ask something:

Is there any normal sports stuff here? I'm looking for volleyballs in particular cause I can't get rusty with my gameplay.

As for everything else, I think I've caught up on the whole being a demi-god thing. Though I guess from how my life has been for a while this is kind of weird even for me.

So uh yeah, I guess if you want to talk just lemme know. Otherwise I'm going to be wandering the camp for a while.

[With that, Akane switches off the signal after some more fumbling. If you want to meet her, she is also wandering around the area looking rather lost and kind of put out, her hands stuck into the pockets of her jeans and looking a touch sullen in her orange half-blood t-shirt. Intercept her maybe?]

Ssilissa. [There's a bit of hissing involved.] And it's... not really English. Just the closest I could get to "Millicent" when I was little.

But yes. I don't know about what happened in your hometown, but if it's any indication, I was an aether-pirate. Er, space pirate, I suppose you'd say.

Really? That's different. Definitely not something a Legendary Warrior would deal with.

I mostly just use Ssilissa or Ssil, actually. Even the people who raised me had stopped actually calling me Millicent by the time I was three.

It was... interesting. But I liked it. I miss the rest of the crew sometimes.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I'm missing my friends but I know they'll be okay.

Not at all! I wouldn't have brought it up if I minded.

I'm mostly just worried because they'll need to find a new alchemist. But yes, I know they'll be fine. They were with friends when I was brought here, anyway.

It should be interesting, at least. It probably helps that I know how to use a sword already. Well, a cutlass, anyway.

You're lucky, I don't know how to use swords at all. If I had my powers but I guess that's a past what-if right now.

Right. I'm kind of amazed at how much technology there seems to be that they don't use in the camp. I think this is the future, relative to me, but they don't even seem to use firearms here.

I'm sure there's a reason for that. Powerful magical stuff usually only work against certain things...

Maybe. I was leaning toward "the gods aren't fond of newer technology", but considering where they've moved Olympus to that does seem a bit silly, doesn't it?

It does at times, but sometimes traditional is best.

Yeah, she's a big mecha and anime nut. I don't get it, but she enjoys it a lot.

Maybe. I'm trying to recall if they actually told us anything in particular about monsters only being vulnerable to certain things, because I can't think of anything in the stories I've read that would stop bullets from working, apart from the occasional one that's outright immune to weapons.

A big... what now?

Well I'm not a big mythology person or anything, but it would stand to reason they have a reason why they don't use guns.

Mecha. Like giant robots and stuff.

Presumably, yes. [She lowers her voice a little.] Then again I suspect gods are not above using "because I don't want to" as a reason on occasion.

Giant what now? [Guess who's from before that word was part of English?]

Hmmm... maybe? I have no idea. [Akane's not particularly religious anyhow.]

Really big robots. Like 30 foot tall ones.

What's a robot?

A robot's a giant machine, sometimes bipedal sometimes not. There's a lot to explain about it and I only know the basics.

Oh, like an automaton! We have those where I come from; some people even have automaton servants. Though apparently having steam-powered metal men do your laundry leaves scorch marks on your clothes.

Steam powered huh? I didn't realize you could make something like that. [For a moment Akane grimaces on her end, rubbing her head as unfamiliar thoughts floated through her mind but she shook it off.]

I guess it requires a few things to make it work.

I don't know, it might be different here. I know history's rather different in this world from mine.

Well I guess that's something we can check out later then? There's got to be books.

That's mostly what I thought. If it gets to a point where we can get out to the city... and that's if they don't have the books here already. I'd been talking with Umi about that already.

I did say if - I'm fairly sure there is at least one library here. I just haven't had the time to go looking yet.
