[The camera of the necklace is flopping in all directions as a pair of hands are working on getting a feed. Grumbling can be heard from the recipient as a redhead comes into view, looking particularly put out from the way everything seems to be going.]

This on? Oh good, it's on. And this is why I don't have a phone...

So uh... [She rubs her head a little.] I guess I'm new here, recently claimed yadda yadda. I'm Akane Hino, and by dang I'm giving up my last name. I'm in Cabin 9 and I just want to ask something:

Is there any normal sports stuff here? I'm looking for volleyballs in particular cause I can't get rusty with my gameplay.

As for everything else, I think I've caught up on the whole being a demi-god thing. Though I guess from how my life has been for a while this is kind of weird even for me.

So uh yeah, I guess if you want to talk just lemme know. Otherwise I'm going to be wandering the camp for a while.

[With that, Akane switches off the signal after some more fumbling. If you want to meet her, she is also wandering around the area looking rather lost and kind of put out, her hands stuck into the pockets of her jeans and looking a touch sullen in her orange half-blood t-shirt. Intercept her maybe?]

I did say if - I'm fairly sure there is at least one library here. I just haven't had the time to go looking yet.

Hmm yeah. I'll bet its in Ancient Greek too. Bleah. I'm terrible at languages.

Mm. I don't know, it might be in English. Especially if we're looking for modern history or physics texts, or just encyclopedias.

Oh, you're Japanese as well? I suppose I should have guessed from your name. There seem to be quite a lot of Japanese people here...

Yeah I'm Japanese. I was born in Osaka but I live in Nanairogaoka right now. I think the English name for our town is "Rainbow Hills".

Oh, that's a pretty name. I was raised in London, though I suppose you wouldn't have thought it to look at me.

London? I've been to Paris before, but not London. How is it there?

Well, when I was there it was mostly drizzly and full of smoke... but the last time I was there was in 1848.

Mm, yes, I'd noticed a lot of people seemed to be from further along. I think this is closer to your time than mine, but I'm not quite sure what year it is.

[Now we just have to wait for Akane to notice the disconnect between "1848" and "space pirate".]

Yeah it looks modern, but then I've only been to New York before. The Statue actually.

Statue? Oh, the big one out in the bay! Yes, that's very impressive. I only caught a glimpse of it when the bus left the city. I've never been there until now, I'm afraid.

I went there in my own world. With my friends, on a world tour actually.

Wait you said Space Pirate. And it was 18something? How does that work?

Oh, that sounds nice. That would be when you went to Paris, too?

Ah, yes. My world has a... different history. British aether-ships have been expanding the Empire throughout the worlds of the sun for most of the nineteenth century. I think we may have different laws of physics, too - Mars isn't inhabited in your world, is it?

Yeah it was. It was really nice to be honest!

Oooh that explains it. That's actually kind of weird but then again I think there's a lot of neat -- Mars is inhabited? Nope, not my world.

Things can be... interesting between worlds, I think. But yes, Mars is inhabited. So are a lot of asteroids and most of Jupiter's moons. Some of my best friends are from Io and Ganymede.

If it's any consolation, I had about the same reaction when I found out America was a country in this world.

[She had it faster, but she's not going to actually say that.]

Mm, I like them. Nipper is the sweetest person you'll ever meet - he just also happens to be a giant crab.

I suppose so. It may have something to do with not having aether-ships in this world - so it wasn't as hard for the colonists to rebel.

A giant... crab? He sounds like quite the guy.

I guess space travel would probably change everything.

Oh, yes. He looks quite fearsome, but he's a sweetheart, really.

I don't know about "everything", but then I don't know what this world was like in the nineteenth century.
