[Say hello to a pair of big, brown eyes with even more color running through them. Whoever this woman is, she's surprised, a reaction hardly unheard of... though how she's pleasantly surprised, as she pulls back wearing a wide and inviting smile, could prove a little unique. Why is she this happy after being brought to a weird new place? Shouldn't she be wary?!

Well, yes, but she's also Maya Amano. And she thinks she is is broadcasting a message right now, so onto more important things!]

Wow, you're amazing, Iris! I guess your true form is like that, huh? Thanks so much for doing this!

[At least she's polite. The pendant is lifted a bit, revealing a completer picture of the woman staring up into it. Already clothed in an orange t-shirt and jeans that somehow, somehow flatter her, there's nothing too much out of the ordinary aside from... the giant white owl sitting on a glove over her arm... but, hey, the campers who've been here longer than she has have probably seen stranger. Right? Right. She blinks, then keeps talking with her best friendly grin -- and friendly voice -- on full display. Relaxed. Purposeful.]

Anyway, there's no time like the present to introduce myself. I'm Maya Amano... or at least I was called that back at home, and everyone here can feel free to keep it to Maya, to make it easier. ["big sis" and "mommy" and other variations may or may not come later] I arrived earlier today, so I regret to say I'm not quite caught up to speed yet! Would anyone who's been in Camp longer care for some sharing and caring, maybe answer a few questions for me?

[Lady is a reporter, after all, and that whole "seeking information" part of her life doesn't just go away no matter where she is. Maya laughs lightly, the owl (evidently more dignified than she is), shaking on its perch with it but really not looking out of place otherwise. You can practically hear the tolerance.]

Or you can always just stop and say hello, too! Introduce yourselves back! I want to know all your names, and I want to know what you all look like! There's no denying I could use the practice with this fancy pendant, but you should really come right up to me in person if you see me around, okay? Let's make things a little more friendly and a little less tough on Iris...! Ciao!

Claimed... Well, I can't tell you I know whether the bird's going to do anything for me or not, or if she even understands me, but I was told her being here like this means I'm a Daughter of Athena.

[Half of her attention is on the owl as she speaks, one of Maya's fingers gently petting over a few feathers. The creature is nonplussed.]

Ah, so that's your parent. [Goddess of Wisdom. That has to say something about Maya herself.] I don't think her other children got pets, though... It must be different with you.

[He's curious about the owl, watching to gauge its reaction while Maya is petting it. Having an owl for a pet is a pretty rare occurrence.]

Oh yeah, didn't you say you had some questions?

[It most certainly does.]

Really, Akihiko-kun? Maybe it is different, then. I've got a feeling she's one of those gifts I don't necessarily get to keep. [And speaking of, all this talk about Athena and her other children and pets might as well lead into her very first question, right?]

--Okay! Let's start off easy. Do you know any other children of Athena at Camp? My half-siblings, as it were.

Like a test drive or something, Amano-san? [Maya seems older than him – though by how many years, he isn’t sure – so he has to show her proper respect.]

Well, I’ve spoken to a girl who said she was also claimed by Athena. [His face scrunches up a little in thought.] Didn’t get her name, though… It takes some people longer to get claimed than others, so you probably don't know all of your "half-siblings" just yet.

[A brief, wordless nod. Maybe. Who knows a test drive of what, but the owl will probably fly back off into the forest sometime as easily as it came from there...]

I won't be able to figure out all of them? I was "claimed" almost as soon as I walked in.

Apparently, all of the unclaimed people are staying in Cabin 11 until they get claimed. It happened to me too, when I first arrived. [He shrugs slightly.] We don’t know why it occurs at different times for people.

Oh, I'm aware, I just thought... other children of a goddess like Athena would've been claimed right away like me.

[Though of course she can't be sure. Camp Half-Blood strikes Maya as a place where many things aren't what they initially seem.]

But I guess it would be troublesome for every single one of those gods to up and claim every single one of their offspring so quickly. Who needs to be claimed to achieve greatness, anyway?

Hmm… [He muses thoughtfully.] I kinda thought all the gods would claim their children right away. I mean, why wouldn’t they? They’re the ones that know who’s related to them.

Unless… I guess some gods don’t want the responsibility. [Some of the less scrupulous gods might not care that they have kids.]

Heh, we don’t. [Akihiko grins a little at her words.] Everyone should accomplish things using their own efforts. We don’t need to rely on gods to hand things to us, right?

... Right! [She gives a cheerful grin.] Which is exactly my point. If we wonder about gods and what they do and don't do and why all day, we'd never get anywhere. There are some things we can't change. And some only we can.

I agree. I mean, I understand why people want everything to be explained, but... if we can't get the answer right now, there's no point in sitting around and wasting time. We need to move on with our lives, and deal with things as they come.

...Everything'll be okay. We're all gonna go back home after we've fulfilled our purpose here.

You know, I'm beginning to think you and I are on a similar wavelength, Akihiko.

Heh, you think so? [He chuckles lightly.] Well, we're not related, so that can't be the reason.

[Said with all due assurance, as well as a smile.]

If we're both demigod children of Greek deities, wouldn't that make us related anyway? Not that optimism and strength and all those good qualities have to be hereditary.

[He’s not used to conversing so comfortably with women. This is a refreshing change of pace.]

I guess that’s true… [His face suddenly scrunches up a little.] But then that means my “father” had sired a bunch of illegitimate children. I hope we only inherit some of their qualities.

[Well, that'll just make it all the more fun when she teases him.]

Mmmmm, are you planning to get your game on with all the ladies at Camp Half-Blood? If not, I'd say you're safe! [/wonk] If so, wait a few months before you try wooing me, tiger. I might be a little too much for you just yet!

Wh-What?! [And Akihiko quickly gets flustered.] N-No! I wouldn’t do that! [He hasn’t been kissed or gone on a date yet! Totally fails at picking up girls.]

Tch… [Okay, he’s gotten himself back under control a bit.] I’m not afraid of a challenge, you know. [Though he’s pretty sure she’s out of his league, being a hot older woman and all.]
