I'm kind of freaking out here.

So I've been having weird dreams lately about mechanics and plans and all of this. Today I found myself working on the heating coil of our stove in my Cabin and turned it into a Air Conditioner. I don't know how I did that, how it happened and certainly had no idea how I was able to cook something on a broken stove as well... that I fixed.

And to boot I've been coming up with plans, ideas. I've been trying to write them down and I can't, like they're THERE but I can't get it OUT OF MY HEAD.

I'm trying to go for a walk and clear my head but I keep looking at things and going "You know, that could be turned into a steam-powered ballista"--NO BAD AKANE!

Yes, we're in the land of misfit toys, but I didn't bring up steam powered ballista. That gets you an extra level of freak over me.

It's not my fault that these weird thoughts are getting into my head! I don't even like machines.

I doubt most of us are freaks by choice. You'll just have to get over it, as machines like you.

It's probably in relation to your father. I know a few of us have found similar traits, though I don't think I've heard of anyone discovering any talent quite that drastically.

I don't want this talent, I don't even like mecha! That's Yayoi's department! I can't even get it out of my head!

Perhaps it could be useful in the future though!

It's... it's just scaring me. All of these thoughts... they feel alien, like they're not mine.

Doesn't most of this, though? New powers and understandings. Being able to do things we never could before...

"Really? Steam? I could look over your plans if you want. I mean coal based steam stuff is kind of low tech but its a good start. Or are you talking nuclear, because if I could get my hands on some plutonium that may be a decent project."

"... we can't actually get access to nuclear stuff here. I don't think anyone has that kind of pull."

And Akane sighed a little. "That, and I can't seem to draw them out. At all."

"Yeah I know. Its frustrating. There aren't any decent repair and construction facilities either. Its all real salt of the Earth stuff."

She sighs and shakes her head.

"I can show you some blueprint tips from back home if you think they'll help?"

"Used to something more modern?" inquired Akane.

"That would be appreciated. I don't know how to write any of this down. I mean, I understand it, but I don't know how it works."

"Yeah, a lot more modern. Where are you?"

A steam-powered ballista might be interesting, though you'd have to get the coal for it, I suppose. I'm sure it would probably fire faster than a cannon.

I'm not sure what help I can really offer, unless one of your siblings has some sort of tips for dealing with unwanted inventiveness.

[True, she's been having unusual bouts of mischievousness, but they're not quite that distressing.]

It's a low-level freakout I'm having right now. A lot of this is new to me after all.

[She shakes her head.] My sisters have been helping, somewhat at least.

That's good, at least. I suppose we should have expected this sort of thing... and how unsettling it could be.

It's just so, well to coin a phrase, alien for me. Like the thoughts aren't my own. I'm used to powers taking over before but this is a whole new level of unsettling.

Mm. Alchemy in my world can feel like that sometimes, but it's not quite so alien. More like the ship knows which way to go - I end up directing whoever's at the helm, sometimes. I'm much more used to that, anyway.

An Air Conditioner. It means it makes the air cooler.

Really? It's pretty standard in hot places.
